An Adventurous Day Out In Sydney With My Friends
My mates and I had been planning a get-together for a long time. But as you know, planning a day with your friends after college is similar to the story of Sisyphus rolling a boulder up the hill, only, the boulder rolls down every time it reaches the peak, and Sisyphus repeats the task for eternity without any success.
A meet-up is similar to this; you think you have the perfect day planned, but at the last moment somebody cancels. But it is understandable, because life is not easy with full-time jobs and other huge responsibilities.
But nonetheless, we finally decided to go out on a Saturday. No cancellation, no responsibilities, no jobs—just one day full of fun, laughter, adventure and nostalgia. This was a much needed day out for everyone (our gang of 4) to avoid burn-outs. So, we left all our office laptops and didn’t even bother to think about our jobs.
This is how the day went:
Sydney Harbour Lunch Time Cruise
All of us graduated from the University of Sydney and in spite of it being very close to the harbour, we never really got to go on a cruise, because obviously we were broke AF. Every time we chilled by the harbour, our eyes would lock jealously on those fancy and luxury cruises gliding past. We’d laugh and say, “One day, we will.”
And yes, we did it! We decided to finally go on board a luxury glass boat. And it was all worth the wait— a deluxe meal, sparkling views of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Luna Park, Barangaroo and many more. We got ample time to soak in the atmosphere and catch-up. And it felt surreal—there we were, four mates sitting on a cruise, and living the moment we used to joke about. Life is all about this, right?
Flight Simulator
Yes, you read the heading right! A flight simulator was next on our agenda. We literally didn’t know the existence of such a place. It was recommended by a friend of mine. We chose a 30-minute high speed simulator. After a 15-minute pre-flight briefing, each of us became ‘pilots’ for 30 mins.
We had the option to choose the airport of our choice and I chose the world’s toughest airport to land—Lukla Airport in Nepal. Because who doesn’t love a near death experience that you know won’t **** you? I was initially skeptical about this whole ‘simulation’ thing. Because how much real can a fake thing be? But once you're seated in the captain’s seat, the unreal becomes real. Even though it was not a group activity, all of us had real fun individually, for it was an adrenaline-pumping activity.
A Nostalgic Walk Through Our Campus
What better way to catch up with your old mates than at the place that made you mates in the first place. After the flight simulator, we had initially planned a jet boat ride, but it would have been too hectic, so we went with this plan. And it was the right choice. You can’t possibly imagine how well we recollected our best memories—the laughs, cries and romances. The river of memories flew seamlessly and we drew the nostalgic waters out of it!
Ending The Day At A Bar
The final activity of the day, and we part without a drink? Seriously? That’s why we headed out to a Karaoke Bar—where singers become stars and non-singers become the life of the party. Alcohol transforming a sane person to an insane one is nothing new, but alcohol coupled with songs and karaoke? That’s a different vibe. We literally had a blast. We sang, laughed, cried, danced and reminisced. Things went so adventurous (which shall remain anonymous) that we got kicked out and were ‘banned forever’ from that bar. Our photos still hang in that bar under the “Entry Denied” list.
But who cares? A belly full of beer and mates to drink with! That’s the only requisite to make good ever-lasting memories. And now we have another memory to talk about on our next meet-up.
